Music Monday – Series 02
Imogen Heap – Tidal
Last month Imogen returned with a new solo album entitled ‘Ellipse’. Heap always delivers with great songwriting…catchy hooks…and serene harmonies. One of my favorite tunes on this new record is ‘Tidal’. Great production, drum programming, and I absolutely love the nice balance of organic and electronic. Nearly the entire album was produced/engineered in her home studio. Also check out "First Train Home" and "The Fire".
PNAU – Come Together
Taken from the self titled Album PNAU. 80s synth pop goodness.. not overly done… catchy groove… great lyrics. Not sure whats in the Australian water… but can someone send me a case?
Bibio – Great Are Rhe Piths
Released this year on Mush, the album "Vignetting the Compost" plays home to some great sonic cuts by Stephen Wilkinson. One of my favorites has to be "Great are Rhe Piths". On a different note I absolutely love how imperfect Bibio’s recordings are… they always make me feel as though I’m looking at old photographs. Grainy…out of focus… colors fading… but oh so intoxicating.
Atjazz – For Real (Version Remix)
Was digging through some old records the other night and found this incredible EP by Martin Iveson (atjazz). Relased in 2006 on Sonar Kollectiv/Innervision it still holds a candle to most anything out there today. Moody… spaced out…with a touch of dub and basic channel. Cant go wrong… This is one for the headphones.. close your eyes and enjoy the trip.
Harold Budd – Madrigals of the Rose Angel
Managed to find the incredible Eno Produced album " Pavillion of Dreams" at a local thrift store several years back. For a mere $1.25 I was able to pick up what might be one of my favorite albums of all time. Every tune on this record is mind blowing…. one of the stand outs to me has got to be "Madrigals of the Rose Angel". What a beautiful piece of music!! Whenever I put it on I feel as if I were picked up off the ground by an angel, placed on a cloud and given a tour of the heavens. The harp… chorus line….lead vocal…. just spellbinding!
Roberto Rodriguez – Camera Obscura
Finnish techno maven Roberto Rodriguez has been a hot streak over the last 2 years. Though his Camera Obscura EP was released in 2007.. the self titled track always finds it way back on the playlist. Bouncing beats, hypnotic bass, and a subliminal arpeggio line are the key ingredients to this fantastic end of summer tech-house dish. Enjoy
