Music Monday – Series 02/03
Sorry for missing last weeks Music Monday. Its been bananas at the studio! Here's a pretty hefty selection this week to make up for it. Enjoy!! Tons of new content on the way as well. I promise.
Ministries of Music (meets Paul Lomax) – Islands
Lush…warm.. and sensual texture. Like a blushing cloud smiling at the sun. I'm a sucker for anything with a saxophone in it; add in some lovely major 7th chords, synth bass, and percussion and I'm on my way. Killer!!
Jean F Cochois – Like a Poison Snake
Taken from the newly released full length LP on label 'Listening Pearls'. Mr Cochois aka The Timewriter (Plastic City) always brings the beautiful vibes. I can't help but be impressed by all of his work, from the early Plastic City material to his driftwood stuff under his Drain Pipe guise. Perfect music for this time of year.
[Bonus] Borsig Allee
Keno One – A Shadow of the Self
Sick drum programming!! Head nodding tune, with killer upright, pizzicato strings, rhodes, and a string quartet to round it off. Bitchin! Reminds me a bit of 4hero with touch of the J to the A to the double Z : nova.
Washed Out – New Theory
What the F is this kid eating and/or drinking cuz he's just oozing with awesome! I don't think there has been a release of his that I have'nt absolutely gone ga-ga over. The fidelity is always super questionable, but what can I say its part of the reason I love it. Purity!! Simplistic melodies, haunting vocals, and enough reverb for YOUR track.
Xuman – Panic
Pretty much borderline cheese, but I actually dig this. Reminds me of being a kid growing up in the 80s with my Duke of Hazzard lunchbox and Incredible Hulk onesie pajamas. I'm going to watch 'RAD" now!
Vampire Weekend – Run
Really diggin the new Vampire Weekend full length 'Contra'. One of the tunes that really connected with me on the first listen was 'Run'… its fun.. playful…kinda show tuney….and reminds me a lot of Peter Gabriel, and what he would have been like if there were more traveling carnivals in England.
