Monsters of Folk – Slow Down Jo

I was lucky enough to receive a promo copy of this debut album (Out Sept 22) a couple of  weeks ago.  I must say…. truly remarkable!  A beautiful blend of not only folk as the album title suggests… but soul/blues/country and classic rock as well. One of the things I love about folk music is the lore behind it… the storytelling…the metaphors…the politics.  From start to finish its an enjoyable experience. I would like to note that because its members are from various indie bands the album nearly took 5 years to complete.  Band Members include: Jim James(My Morning Jacket), Conor Oberst , Mike Mogis(Bright Eyes) and Matthew Ward. I chose the track "Slow Down Jo", because I immediately felt a connection to it. Lately I’ve been taking on quite a bit of work.. and at times it feels that I need to slow down, relax, and enjoy everything at a peaceful pace.

Neon Indian – Mind,Drips

Taken from their 2009 LP ‘Psychic Chasms’, Mind Drips is pure analog madness.  Vintage synth lines…. hypnotizing arpeggios. Its pretty obvious the album was recorded to 2" tape….. an old overused tape at that.. as their tunes have this wonderful drift in the pitch at times. I’m a sucker for 80s vibes and this track and record has plenty of it. Enjoy!

The XX – Night Time

Seductive vocals… killer guitar grooves..and simple but effective beats are the winning formula for London England based band ‘The XX’. They have been getting alot of attention lately for their track ‘Shelter’…but one of the standouts for me on their debut album is  ‘Night Time’. I absolutely love the guitar lines, bass, and the way the tune slowly builds in and out. Check out the rest of the album… really great stuff.

 Sascha Funke – Summer Rain

Really subliminal tune. Use of field recording source to play backround texture to a soothing ambient groove. Lovely vibe! Taken from Sascha Funke’s 2008 full length release titled "Mango" on BPitch Control.

Sideshow – Strung Outro

First off a little backround… I was first introduced to the music of Fin Greenall; brainchild behind the Sideshow project by Blu Mar Ten. From the first time I heard his music back in 96′ I was floored and could’nt wait to hear more.  Fin is better known for his work on Ninja Tune under the production title "Fink" and has been delivering great music for years now. Getting back to his Sideshow project I’d say 80 percent of the album is heavy reggae influenced…with echoing dub lines…and head nodding beats. ‘Strung Outro’ is slightly different. Well… no explaining I’ll let you hear for yourself.
