Music Monday – A Mountain of One _ Kings of Convenience _ Murcof _ Processory

A Mountain of One -FreeFall

I was introduced to "A Mountain of One" a couple months ago via my good friend Justin Mimbs.  ‘FreeFall’ was a particular stand out to me… i just cant get enough of it.  Its such a warm tune…I especially love the reverb on the backing vocals in the pre chorus.   The rest of the album is quite good as well….with loads of influence pulled from the 70s disco scene..Dark Side of the Moon..classic rock ballads and swirling psychedelic vibes. Its interesting to note that the duo behind this both come from the underground techno scene. Quite the contrast. Enjoy!

Kings of Convenience - Know How (Live)

One of my favorite Kings of Convenience tunes. This version was recorded live at an intimate concert in Hamburg Germany. The quality of the recording is pretty stellar.. as are the performances of modern folk heroes Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe. KOC have this delicate nature to their songs, where they focus on the simplicity of song writing… melody…harmony…and groove.

Murcof – Cometa

Mexican electronic artist Fernando Corona is the mastermind behind Murcof. He’s best known for his cinematic stylistic approach to IDM… and the track Cometa is a perfect example of this. I love his use of organic sounds…and the way he seamlessly fuses the glitchy abstract soundscapes of minimal techno with classical instrumentation.

Processory – They Are Waiting for You

Finnish electronic artist Jori Hulkonnen and Jerry Veluri first colloborated together on the single Lo-Fiction on Jori’s Dualizm LP for label F Communications. With the incredible success of Lo-Fiction they formed the duo Processory. They released their debut album in 2007 and its one of my favorite of the last 2 years. ‘They are Waiting for you’ was a stand out for me on the record.. Imagine taking Morissey and The Pet Shop Boys and putting them in the studio together. This would be the result.   Its such a haunting tune…and Veluri’s voice draws you in and sweeps off of your feet.
